I used Rick Larsen's Stencil kit from militarystencils.com
Tel: 413-269-0058 Fax: 413-269-0059
Rick steered me in the right direction and the stars and hood numbers arrived by the end of the week.
I ordered for my M2A1
(3) 20" Stars for sides and rear
(1) 15 inch for the louvers
(1) 36 inch for the hood
U.S.A and hood numbers for both sides
All above with shipping on 2/8/12 was $129.25 out the door.
I did my final paint yesterday and need it to cure a week before the stars go on
We will see!

Andy,
I did the same to mine a few years back. I went to a local sign shop and gave them the size of the stars and hood numbers and picked them up the next day. I think I paid $60-80 for everything. I'm sure prices are a little higher now. Here is a link of that project. http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=193160 I plan on getting two more things made. One is a MAX SPEED 45 MPH and the other is CAUTION LEFT HAND DRIVE to go on the rear.

I found this the other day and thought it was interesting. it seems like good info on vehicle markings. There is nothing specific for halftracks though. Does anyone have official locations and/or specs for halftrack markings? I am thinking...with the military there there has to be a specific plan somewhere.

AR- 850-5 pg 46 has the Army's regulations for Halftrack markings - also has the exact dimensions for the numbers letters, etc on page 49-52

I have used Rick Larsen stencils for a M416 build I did - Absolutely first class.
If you are going to do a 2nd Armored or 3rd Armored Division remember they retained the "Heavy" 1942-3 TOE structure - 3 complete Regiments which each had three battalions, while 1st, 4th -14th, 16th and 20th Armored Division went to the Light TOE (Combat Command A,B and R) So a 2nd Armored Division Halftrack from 2nd Battalion HQ section , 66th Armored Regt would have the bumper numbers 2^66^ (pass side) 2 HQ-7 (driver side) The 2 before the HQ indicates 2nd BN. Regimental HQ vehicles including the RECON Co. would have no number before the HQ.
Speed numbers in Yellow (tactical numbers) were also used in the early stage of the ETO but seemed to phase out by Operation COBRA when the units started applying flat black camo.
Can anyone make out what the shipping markings are on the M2 from the 41st Infantry HT ?

Halftrack of 3rd Bn 67th in Sicily (2AD) - If you look at the rear of the lead Halftrack you can see "3 HQ 24" to designate 3rd Battalion

Interesting gun setups on the rear halftrack…and even more interesting storage box on back.

2AD used that storage box (or a variation of) on most of the Divisions halftracks in both the invasion of Sicily and invasion of France- From what I have read and seen from photos that mod was particular to this division. For my long term plan, i'm considering adding this mod to my HT since it will be from a 2AD unit. What I don't know is if it was fabricated from wood or metal. It seems to rest on top of the stock luggage racks....
