My M4 rear axle is giving me fits. Anyone have some sneaky tricks for removing stubborn brake drums? Passenger drum will roll but drivers seems really tight. I have turned the adjusters to release the shoes but no luck. Would removing wheel cylinder bolts help?

You might try a big puller. put a plate over the end of the stub axle. Either tie to the lug nuts or the axle shaft bolts. Although if it is really coming off hard I'd stick with the lug nuts. If the shoes are it to the drum and the the brakes are not retacting could be your problem. The way the shoes are mounted I don't think removeing the bolts from the wheel cylinders it going to gain you anything.

I have never tried the wheel cyl. trick but it might work at least the shoes should be able to move a bit...I just beat my drums with a shop hammer until the came loose...naturally I had them turned befor I put them back on...htn

Your anchor pins (at the bottom) are stuck to the shoes. Take the inspection cover off the brake drum and you should be able to get a pry bar or chisel inside there and pry the shoes away from the drum.
