Title: gas cans
Post by: andy on June 23, 2012, 08:42:41 AM
I'm looking for a pair of gas cans for the halftrack. I have found allot of post war cans available. Is there a difference from 40s to 50s cans other than date stamp?
What is the average price of these in good + condition

Date stamp is the only difference.

I paid $55.00 for a NOS 51 dated can at at show recently.

Really nice cans I have seen bring $50 for a WW2 can. Most in the 20 to 40 range.

My 2 cents.

There is one whole forum on the "G503" deticated just to Jerry cans. Just be careful of the Jerry can and pioneer tool police :o

Try to find one gas can, and one water can. They both go in the jerry can holders, but the water can will have the date on the top, to show every one that you a have WWII one (for the jerry can police), but also, having the water can is great for washing your hands after working on the halftrack at a show.
Water cans can be found cheaper than the gas can.

LOL, Up here in Canada i doubt there will be "the cops" eyeing my old girl for originality. They would be just happy having her at their events as up here in Canada there arnt many privately owned pieces of armor.

Thanks for the replies

I keep two water cans on mine, because a couple of years ago at a reenactment we had a bad grass fire.  Now if the ground is dry I will them with water just in case.
