I know on M2's there is a shim between the bed and the front frame pad. It's about 4"x2" with a hole centered for the bed hold down bolt. My question is has anyone seen more than one per side? Do all the M2/M4's have these? Last, Do the M3/M16 long frame use them?
Getting ready to mount beds on my M4 and M16. I assume I need one per side on the M4 but not sure about the M16 or M3A1.

On my M2A1, which is a B&M rebuild, there were 3 on the right front. 2 were the same thickness and one was thinner than the other 2.

What’s the proper procedure for shimming these? I’ve looked in the manuals, but I couldn’t find anything on it. I appreciate any help!

When I put my bed on I had to shim the the bed to make the doors fit. Once I had the armor on then I jacked the front of the bed added shims untill the door would close correctly. then shimed accordingly going back. But my case might be a little different since I had welded my frame back together.

Thanks Don. My bed is just bolted direct to the frame pads. The only shims I knew about are in the two front locations under the bulkhead behind the front seats. Are there others?

Is on the right track. I have seen from one to six shims on the front pads. For some reason it almost always seems that there are more on the left pad. Never found any on pads farther back.

Here's the drivers side and passenger side on our '41 M2A1. I tend to take a plethora of pictures as we disassemble for cases just like this. Unfortunately, however, my brother does not. ;D

Thank you guys. Great pictures Corey. Then as for the original question, what’s the process? The bed is bolted to the pads – now do I just fill the gap at the two front locations with shims?

My frame was bent, got it close but ended up with shims at the front of the bed and at the firewall to get the doors to line up. Set the bed on and put in only the rear bolts, shim the front bed mounts so the doors line up, then fill the gaps between the other brackets and bed with shims so the bed is not distorted when tightened down. If things are way off you may also need to shim the rear cab mounts (at the firewall) a little like I did.

OK. As far as I know, my cab hasn’t been off the frame, so however it was fitted originally is the way it is now. The bed is bolted back down to the frame, the rear armor and perimeter rail are installed and welded and the doors are pretty happy. So, I guess all that’s left is to make a couple of stacks of shims and bolt those two front points down and call it a day. Thanks again to you guys for your help with this. I appreciate it.
