Title: SCR-508 table measurements
Post by: 47lincsled on March 07, 2014, 11:43:21 PM
I've been working all winter on the half-track, outdoors, it's been so nice, I installed the winch bumper set up, had the small side seat backs made and installed them, found the antenna mount at a reasonable price,I even bought some new shift knobs from Gary, about the only thing I haven't done that I really want to do is build the table for the radio set, I have all the component except the FT-237 mounting tray, but for now the radios sitting on the table would be good enough for the car shows I'm planning on going to this spring. It looks like it's just a basic angle iron frame with a plywood surface, so if someone can get me the measurements I can knock one up. AKA BOBC

The FT-237 is not just a base. It ties in all three parts of the radio electrically. as seen in the photo below.

Once mounted on that the hole assembly is put in a CH-74 cabinet and will rest on either a FT-285 stand for mounting in the rear of the halftrack. Midwest Military sells this table as a kit for $100.00

Or a FT-284 stand for mounting on the driver's side where the ammo locker is. The ammo locker would go of course. There is someone on the G503 site that was reproducing these. Search the archives for FT-284.

Hope this helps.

I know the set up should be on the FT-237, but I can't afford one right now,and I'll never be able to afford to get the radio set operational but the FT-285 I could build easy enough if I had measurements, when my M-2 was converted to A-1 they removed both side boxes, which makes it much easier to use the gun ring and get in and out of the rear compartment, it will all be for show, and the shows I go to no one will ever know it's not correct. I'm hoping to find some radio traffic recordings that I can play on a CD and pipe through the speaker, I did that with my "morale radio" and it works great and old people get a kick from hearing Bing on the radio again!

I posted this on the G503 site. It lists the rough dimensions for the FT-285 stand and the CH-74 cabinet. http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=234987 Hope this helps.

With those measurements and some I got from the TM 11-600 I was able to make a very passable cabinet and table, I don't have the radio set installed in the half-track yet,I can't leave them in due to wind and lack of dust proof shelter.

And here is the cabinet and table installed in the half-track, my wife made the cover flap yesterday but I still have to install the lift the dot fasteners, which you can buy from beach wood canvas, the studs for the cabinet were gotten through them also!(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/47lincsled/DSC_0001-41.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/47lincsled/media/DSC_0001-41.jpg.html)

For the last two weeks I've been pushing myself to get the 57MM AT gun cleaned up and finish some detail work, now that it is ready I went to work on finishing the radio set up, my wife found me some radio chatter on a cd so I mounted a loud speaker under the cabinet,I snaked a wire through one of the receivers and hooked it up to a head phone outlet so I can plug the speaker in, the CD player is small enough to hide behind the transmitter. I shot a short video so you can see and hear the set up.

Bob,
Do you actually have your radio wired to the electrical system of the halftrack?  What did you do about the terminal box?  Did you find one or just omit it from the installation?  Below is the schematic from the M3A1 radio install manual…the terminal box is item #32.  I'm assuming the installation is pretty similar for the M2, just less wire.

The bed that I installed on my M-2 had the terminal box! I didn't use it because I could never afford to actually get the radio working,it's just for show.
