Are you changing out the track on the drivers side or did it come off?
One of the few, Frank USMC RET
-
Was putting on a track to move it, it does not run, this was a year and a half ago. I have many pictures but one must be my limit, won't let me post more, just kicks me off line. I will try another day. Barry
-
Hi Barry, hey resize your pictures. Down to 640 pixels. It will down load easier and faster. Want to see more pictures!!
Don G.
-
This is another picture of what I started with. It's an M3 but I cut off the bad back end and put on an M2 back from a parts machine with a bad frame.
-
WOW, I thought I went deep! Looks like you have a project. Nice job on the frame splice.
Don G.
-
thanks for posting those pics.
we all should move to the same town ;D
-
I am going to keep posting pictures of progress from the last year or so. Made some rear body brackets.
-
Like most, the roller was missing, so I made one. Only thing I had to go by when I built it was the pictures Steve-O posted.... so... it's not quite correct. Cut up square tube for the nice radius on the brackets. The tube I used for the roller had been in the iron pile for 40 years, not thick enough but will look OK. Replaced the center of the bumper while I was there.
-
Very impressed ;D Nice job on the welding!
Don G.
-
Great job on that roller fabrication!! Don, take notes. ;D
Steve A.
-
Yep I'm looking ;) Barry I'm glad your posting pictures on your rebuild, along with Andy. I'm winding down on my HT. Love watching progress photo's.
Don G.
-
Very nice work thanks for posting.
-
Frame was sandblasted and sprayed with phosphoric acid to kill the rust. Did some rear idler work.
-
Frame was painted then got into the bogies. Filled the seal groves in the bogie arms with JB weld, if it doesn't work I guess I will never know.
-
I love seeing layouts of progression. It makes me want to move faster on mine! Do you by chance have any drawings of the brackets you made for the roller brackets?
-
I don't have any drawings...I blew up the pictures Steve-o posted here http://halftrackinfo.com/index.php?topic=163.0 to actual size (I knew how tall the frame was) and slapped a piece of paper on the computer screen and traced....Oh and by the way.... don't use a Sharpie to do this... I now have the outline of a roller bracket on my computer screen....
All the pictures others have posted of their work have been priceless help on mine and I have saved many many of them. I thought I should share mine so they might help others on their projects. Barry
-
Oh. that is a good Idea! Not the whole magic marker on the monitor part though. Try the Mr. Clean magic erasers. I found they take sharpie off just about any thing. That lesson is thanks to my childrens...
-
Made the windshield glass frames, used $36 worth of aluminum. Got new glass and built around it, sealed them with black silicone, not original but they look "military". Don't know why I thought this needed to be done now, I don't even have the frame done, but it was a fun project.
-
Pictures of the front axle, brakes and new tires. No leaks when I got done, air or oil! It's nice to have it back on it's wheels.
Sometimes my other track needs work.... not as much fun.
-
Nice work Barry…another step closer!
-Tom
-
Went through the drive axle, looks like it tore up the spider gears at one time, maybe twisted off an axle. Life with crane on it was tough I think.
-
It rained here.. lots... so soybean planting came to a screeching halt... again... and I have time to post a few pictures of the brake booster.
Used a Ford truck booster, the same one the CCKW guys use I think. Made a bracket and ran the lines, if I figured right the booster will clear the floor, if not...well...
Had lots of leaks at the flares, I think the flaring tool I've had for 35 years is crap, wish I had bought a good one when I started but finally got everything sealed up and it has brakes.
-
thats great
i just installed the other model that the cckw guys use.
i think yours may be better.
-
Can you post a part# for this booster?
Thanks Gary
-
they are posted here
http://halftrackinfo.com/index.php?topic=424.0
piston type A1 cardone 518028 or 51-8028
diaphragm type RV2512140X or 518030
i found the piston type on ebay,it looks a little more accurate but its more expensive and cheaply built.
-
Thanks Steve, I couldn't find a number for the one I used but I'm sure it's the one you listed.
-
Thought I would post some updates of progress, went through the tranny last spring.
-
I know it has been a long time for since I have posted, have spent the last 2 winters fixing broke farm machinery.
Got the rear armor on and figured out the frame was bent :( but got it close now.
-
Decided to build the luggage racks, mostly used pictures posted here for the design.

-
Do you take some drug ?
Very nice and intresting job
-
Thee latest pictures are all stuff I have done this winter.
Wanted a 1928 Thompson bracket, thankfully someone posted good pictures of an original with a tape measure, made building one way easier.
-
Wated a set of M2 tripod brackets for the rear steps, again found good pictures and made some dies to bend them up. Have made some for guys that needed them.
-
You did a fantastic job making those brackets.
Steve A.
-
Great job on all of your fabrication 8)
Gary
-
Wow! Nice!!
-
More pictures of progress this winter. Went through the starter.
And the generator.
-
Made the top bows and hardware.
-
Got started on the engine, bored it .020 over, had to put intake valve seats in it, they were pretty rusted. Going to use the bearings over, they look OK but if the clearance is too much I'm just going to solder up the inserts and re bore them to whatever size I need, I can be a tight wad at times.
-
Great to have the necessary equipment! Nice job!
-
WOW!!! Great job. If you need engine gaskets I sell new made sets. PM me if interested. Also, engine bearings are not that bad in price. I wouldn't be to cheap on that stuff. Anyway you are doing a terrific job. Keep the photos coming. ;D
Steve A.
-
Yeah, once in a while I have to remind myself "just because you can doesn't mean you should..."
-
Impressive work.
-
Wow is all I can say. Nice work.
-
That is one hell of a shop.
-
I build the shop of my dreams in 2012. Sold a huge iron pile and bought an iron worker, air compressor, lathe, press and a few other things for it. A year or so ago I bought an enclosed hot water parts washer and a tig welder, have had everything else for many years. As you can see I never saw a tool I didn't need. :)
-
That's a very nice shop. 8) I think every halftrack owner should have one ;D. I also agree with there isn't a tool I've seen that I don't need.
Gary
-
Great shop. Best of all, it's yours! ;D I lease two warehouse units and is expensive. I'm currently looking to move so to build a shop of my own.
Steve A.
-
Yeah okay I'm jealous, nice shop! Looks like some excellent work! The Boss has given me permission to rebuild my shop this summer, not quite as impressive as yours! The halftrack looks awesome
Don G
-
Waou i think he is a mecanic !
-
Got side tracked and built a Jeep, put 1500 miles on it last summer but am back on the haltrack now!
-
WOW! Looks fantastic!,
-
Beautiful!! Nice job.
-
Finally straightened the frame until the doors fit and got the rear floor all made, bought the lockers from Superjeep and they fit great.
-
Are you making an M2 or M2A1? I see the perimeter rail along the top which is used on an M2A1. Nice progress though!
Jon
-
This is not exactly a restoration, I'm just building a halftrack....so M2 with perimeter rail.
-
Very nice work thanks for sharing the pictures.
-
That's what I'm doing with mine, an M2 with perimeter rail. Maybe I'll find a skate rail later on down the road.
-
Looking good.
Gary
-
Needed a front passenger seat and could not find one so built it. Bought some 14 gage and bent up the top and base brackets, got it welded up. Also made the tilt stop linkage and a couple years ago I made the seat back brackets. Was fun to do.
Got the picture to load! Made everthing but the screws.
-
Rock on, looks like one heck of a project!
Don G.
-
Fantastic job on the seat! Impressive.
Paul
-
Ditto what Paul said about the seat, Barry! Incredible job!
-
A few pictures of progress just so you know I'm still working on it! Blasted and painted all the parts doors forward. Got most installed. Every time I work on it the yellow one thinks it needs work too...
-
Looking fantastic.
-
progress!
-
Looks awesome!!!! I am in Kansas!
-
Great job!!
-
Very nice!! Great job.
-
