Title: Horizontal track armour to vertical armour bracket.

Can someone do me a favour and give me the cross section dimensions of the titled piece? I know the length as I have both sides fitted however I’m not convinced they are original. I was expecting the brackets to be bent sheet steel like the other brackets however my brackets are actually angle iron so have a perfect 90’ corner and I suspect are forged. They’re obviously very old due to the corrosion but I have my doubts that they are original.

The ones fitted are 1.5” x 1.5” x 106” long, by .2” thick.

The original ones on my M2A1 are formed, press brake style. They are 1.4375 x 1.4375 x .187.

Thanks, I'd imagine they would likely stick to the same idea for the M3/M16. I think mine have been replaced in a German rebuild as I'm convinced it's metric angle iron and not imperial formed steel.

I have examples of originals in both styles. On my M2 they are straight 90 degree (forged) but on the M3's they were formed in a press brake. I think White used the 90 degree style. I can post pictures if you need me to. Also the M3's are slightly longer.

I didn't think of that. I should have included that mine's an Autocar.

I never thought of that either. My M16 with the angle iron brackets is obviously a Whites but I also have a Diamond T M3 which doesn’t have any rear armour.

The correct ones are formed and 3/16" thick.

I’d ordered some near correct angle iron to make 2 new brackets and it arrived today. I knew within seconds that they had sent the wrong stuff, too thin and  3’ shorter than ordered.

I think I’ll tell them to collect this stuff, return my money and I’ll buy some box section of the correct dimensions and cut it in half to get 2 L sections.

Splitting square tubing does not work well do to internal stress, it warps when split. Short pieces will work but long pieces will not be straight.
