transmission/ transfer case / transmission top cover
« Last post by kosovoruss on June 09, 2026, 10:34:16 AM »
Hi, Working on my Early Lot 5 Scout Car that will only shift into Reverse. I removed the Shifter Tower to see if Rails are stuck and everything under there looks pretty clean. I  soaked the rails with WD-40 and tapped lightly with a small brass hammer to no avail. I removed the Tower again and unbolted the 6 bolts holding the top cover (making sure the Transfer case and transmission were both in neutral before I started. I can move the cover side to side a little over an inch and when it is in the center (bolt holes lined up) I can lift it front and back a little over 1/2 inch. I have NOT tapped or pried cover for fear of damaging forks or parts. What am I doing wrong? When I did my Ford GTB the cover lifted right off straight up. Thanks.

all brake related topics / Scout car Master Cylinder
« Last post by kosovoruss on June 08, 2026, 09:52:30 AM »
Hi, After I take top cover off of transmission this week (stuck rails?) I am moving on to the brakes! while underneath, I noticed that someone made an adapter plate and put a dual circuit Master cylinder that I recognize as a Mid 60's to late 80's Chev/GMC from years of selling auto parts. It is connected to 2 Hydrovac boosters, 1 going to the front,1 to the rear. I have never seen anything with 2 Hydrovacs before. The Master was frozen and only took 5-10 minutes to free up with a small hammer and a few squirts of WD-40. I actually have a half decent pedal. I am going to top off fluid and see what I get with the engine running.  Is this an improvement over the single circuit like my Ford GTB? It even looks like the same 4572 Master that only has 1 Port.  Some of the sites list the F-661 which I see has 2 Ports! Would that be 1 to Hydrovac, 1 to Brake Light switch? I already have all of the Wheel Cylinders and some of the hoses, getting more parts as I go along. I really don't know whether to go Part for Part or unbolt the Adapter plate go back to the Factory setup! I could use some input. Thanks. Russ Erwin.

ALL mechanical and technical related questions / Re: M3 radiator cap needed
« Last post by dwhite on May 25, 2026, 02:49:42 PM »
The Stant 10625 works on my M3A1.  But as other have mentioned, it is a vented gas cap.  It's possible to take it apart by uncrimping the outer shell and drilling out the assembly rivet.  I used hi-temp epoxy to fill the vents.  After which I reassembled the components and re-crimped the outer shell.  After all of that work, I found that John Bizal at Midwest Military had a NOS cap, which I bought.  So, unfortunately, I don't really know if the modified cap will work long term.  Also, since it's a vented gas cap, I couldn't find any information on the release pressure.

This is the cap that our museum halftrack has and works fine.  You can get it at Staman, Joe's Motor Pool, Wildenberg, etc. if in Europe.  Not sure about a source in the US though.

ALL mechanical and technical related questions / M3 radiator cap needed

I’m in need of a radiator cap for the radiator.
Even if a cap is vented, if it fits I figure I can unvent it.
I can’t seem to find a part number for one that will fit.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

halftracks and parts wanted / Looking for Air Horn/Carburetor Clamp
« Last post by dwhite on May 21, 2026, 10:18:37 AM »
I'm looking for the Band Clamp that secures the air horn to the carburetor.  I believe it is part no. B184164, if that helps.  I'd appreciate any leads in finding one.  Alternately, if anyone knows if a v-band clamp can be modified to work, I'd appreciate knowing that too.  Thanks, DW
