Need tank filler necks
« on: May 21, 2011, 03:14:32 PM »
Hello fellow halftrackers,
I'm considering using two marine fuel tanks in the M2A1 project. I have two NOS filler caps but need two threaded filler necks form some old tanks. Anyone complete this yet, are the filler necks available from some source other than original fuel tanks? Any one have a set of junk tanks they would be willing to sell the filler necks?
Thanks, KC

i made up some threaded fillers. i had planed on making extras but i ran out of pipe for the threaded part for these. so i only was able to make enough for the tanks im building. i do have extras of the outer rings though. you would just need to weld a short section of pipe to them and machine them. its an easy job for someone that knows what they are doing. these are made to weld into heavy gauge tanks on the outer perimeter from the inside. they will only sit up 1/8" like the originals and have no weld showing. the pic on the right is a complete one and on the left is one of the 1/2" plate rings you can have if you think you can make it work. like you said, if someone has an old tank it may be easier for you.

edit= i missed the part in your post about using marine tanks, i could machine the rings so they sit down as a step then bolt in. these are very heavy though.

i was talking to one of my friends over a few beers and he had the idea of the following.
you can get a marine tank that will sit a little low. use a regular filler cap (safer anyways). this will leave enough room to rig up some type of holder for your nos caps so that you have the right look. just an idea.
