transporting a half track. What do you use?
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:04:33 AM »
Hi All.
I'm looking ahead and want to start looking into trailers. What do you guys with half tracks use to transport your half tracks with? I have access and maybe potential to buy a 94 dodge 3500 dually diesel with 120 miles on her.

I would definitely have the Dodge looked over real good before buying. I find it very hard to believe that a 1994 (18 year old truck) would only have 120 miles on it. That would mean that they took it home from the dealer and parked it never to drive it again.

in 1998 they started putting better brakes on the dodge trucks. i have a 1997 3500 dodge truck and the brakes are a problem with a big load. always have in mind when you are driving that if the brakes go out on the trailer am i going to be able to stop going down this hill.
i bought a new big tex trailer 26+5 gooseneck 29500 gvw trailer and the trailer brakes have gone out 3 times. the first time the trailer plug wiring wasn't tightened from the factory, the second time the trailer wiring harness rubbed through in a section, the third time a fuse blew in my truck.
dont let people rush you going down steep grades. if you do much hill driving you can get an exhaust brake for these trucks.

mine has 355,000 on it and still going good. 120,000 miles is hardly broken in on these cummins engines.

Picture of our transporter, M813A1 5 ton (250hp Cummins 855) and 9 ton three axle Eager Beaver trailer. The trailer has electric brakes on all three axles.
