Steve
I have a photo a friend sent to me from Germany in 1990. It is a storage yard that is full of M16 halftracks. I think he said there was 900 halftracks in the yard, I will have to find the photo to check.
The halftracks are all rebuilds that were used by France. They still belong to the US, and were given back when the french no longer needed them. The halftracks in the photos were all going to be hard targets.
The good news is some were saved, by Army units that wanted them as parade/pass and review vehicles.
I also have a photo taken at the same time by my friend that shows rows of high speed tractors, also doomed to be targets.
The halftracks looked as good as some restored units here, just very sad.
