Problem with vertical track armor

Jigging in the track armor to get started on the floor section.
I really appreciate the long thread by RocnTJ, lots of great pics.
As you can see the vertical side armor is resting up on the brake drum, and is about 1" too high to match up to the front cab rear.
What can you guys tell me about this ???    Should this be notched ? ?
