My SCR-508 radio install

Well, after helping several other halftrack owners with radio related measurements and seeing the progress of RocnTJ, Tapper02 and bobc's radio's I now have the bug to put a radio in my track. I've been collecting stuff for several years now so I'm going to install one of my SCR-508 units as a dummy. Someday I would like to get one functional. so, my plan is to install an SCR-508 on the driver's side where the ammo locker is. This will be mounted in a CH-74 cabinet on an FT-284 stand as per manual. I will be using a MP-54 antenna mount with a AB-15-GR antenna base with MS-116, 117 and 118 mast sections. I also plan on mounting some LS-3 radio speakers for some recorded radio chatter. So far I have the MP-54 mounted with the cabinet getting sand blasted and painted along with the FT-284 stand this weekend, I hope.

Yesterday I installed my Ft-284 stand and CH-74-A cabinet in my halftrack. I first had to remove a few armor bolts and replace them with flat head bolts as they rest under the stand's feet.



Next, I bolted the FT-284 stand to the CH-74-A cabinet. I did this inside the track.



Once that was done the assembly was bolted to the floor.



With that done I lost my access on the driver's side ammo locker door. 



Now that the cabinet is installed i went to my stash of radios and pulled out the FT-237 tray I was going to use. It was the first time I noticed it was a French tray.



I'm in the process of cleaning that along with a BC-604, BC-603 and CH-264 chest. I also ordered a bunch of radio parts and accessories to make this as acurate as possible. Also, I plan to have an operational set in the future.

I pulled out my other FT-237 radio tray and is us made. I will save this one for my working unit.





Also, here is a photo of the radio I'm installing. It needs a little cleaning first. I wouldn't mind re painting the case first though.

Ha!  First time I saw this post Steve!  Too funny that you didn't realize you had an FT-237 with a French data plate!  Have you put in the restored/working radio yet or waiting until you finish the front end resto?

Hi Tom,
I ended up selling that set to Don and also found out it is a SCR-608 set and not a SCR 508 set. On the 608 there are some channels that are legal to use with a HAM license unlike the 508 set. I do have a functional 508 set and an unknown 508 set with a lot of extras. I am short on dynamotors though. I need at least 4 more DM-34's  for my BC-603's and BC-605 that I have. I will wait till I have the front end done to put the radio in. Did you get transfered yet? Any chance of Tower Park or the convention next year?

ok so i have to ask- why are the legs on backwards ? is that just the way the holes lined up ?

and as much as i like toms work, i dont think the pads on the back corners are right. they should be L shaped according to the original pic. they should compensate for the height of the angle iron, that holds the halftrack together because it should tuck all the way into the corner on an M3.
