m2 pedestal mount dimensions
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:44:55 AM »
Hi,

I just picked up a new semi auto M2HB for my M 16 Halftrack and hope to build a pedestal type mount to use until the lottery comes in and I can get a quad mount.  I searched this site and others for dimensions for a pedestal mount but without any luck . can anyone point me in the right direction or have such dimensions to share ?
funny , the shop doesn't look that cluttered when I'm in it ??? notice the BMG mount that has to fit in the pedestal tube.

The correct pedistal mount would be the M25 mount. They are used on the M3 halftracks and mount in the center near the front of the rear compartment. Don has one in his. They are reproduced and originals do come up often. Here is a photo.

Don or I can measure his if interested.

I will be in your area on the 14 or 15 if you are around. Let me know and I will stop by.

I plan to weld one up and would really appreciate the dimensions. I'm trying to get ready for a parade in August and still have quite a bit to do. Would welcome seeing you and showing the M16A2 to you. I'll be home all day Sun , but on sat I'll be gone to a Portland Model Engineers meeting ( machining guys who make everything under the sun for fun) from about 11 to 3. you are welcome to come to the meeting . the show and tell of members projects is usually pretty good. Pm me and we'll work out the times

Bud,
I got you some measurements today. The base plate is 7-1/2" in diameter. I foregot to measure thickness but think it is 1/4" thick. The tube is 34-1/2" tall and 3" in diameter. I do not have thickness but think it is clost to 1/4" If you have the pedistal that mounts on top of the tube, measure that for tube ID. The gussets are 23-3/4" tall. They do not come to a point but stop at 1/2" taper from the tube if that makes since. I will post some more photos tomorrow. If you do not have a pedistal you can find them for sale on eBay. That is where I got mine.

That would be a great winter project.if anyone comes up with the tube thickness that would be great. Are the side gussets 1/4 inch to. Thanks

here is what came of Steve's dimensions. I had a local farm repair shop do the welding and shearing of the gusset plates. the center tube was 3" DOM tubing. but the ID was just a bit off for the socket I had ( I'm inclined to think the socket was too big rather than the tube too small.)  so I had to borrow a friends large chuck lathe to open up the ID a bit and now the socket slides in with a nice running fit. welding was $102 and steel parts were $68. so
$ 170 for a nice M25 mount. I don't know what they go for but that seemed like a great price to me. The bottom plate should be face turned after welding as there can be some heat warpage                Thanks to all , especially Steve ,for the help.
