M4A1 flooring support and armor support
« on: September 08, 2015, 06:15:38 PM »
Hi all,

I need some help and parts to correct the flooring supports and side supports in my halftrack.

I know some of it is wrong, but I don't know how much.

I can e-mail pictures if someone would let me know what I need to make it correct. I would greatly appreciate it.
Mostly I believe the angle iron does not look correct and the supports for the front of the rear seats, and anything else that hold up the floor.

I am also looking for pieces of skate rail, a trolley, a rebuilt hydrovac system, top bows, volt meter, rear bumperets for the rear mounted storage boxes, mounts for rear lights and trailer socket, stainless gas tank, cap and screen for gas tank, rear wiring harness, ammunition box for drivers side with shelves, and shelves for passenger side.
I believe I should also have a grenade box or two.

Also, is there a manual or book that shows what goes where and the size and lengths of the bolts used to put things together with?

Also, is there an easy way to tell original armor from repro? Can I use a center punch and see if it leaves a dimple?

Thank you in advance.
 Dj

Sorry can't help to much with the m4a1 flooring it's set a little differently but most of the lighter angles
Are bent not extruded
Will check the Ord 9 for bolt length but I bet someone here knows
Original armor will have a stamp on the soft(inside ) there will be a heat treat lot number and a H
number like H 53 which corresponds with the manual as to where that plate is located
, also a makers stamp box for white diamond for diamond T and (Pennsylvania) key stone for autocrat
The best thing is pick up manuals from someone
Not sure if portrayal is still in business

DJ,
As for the floor goes an M4A1 halftrack is very close to what an M2 halftrack is so some stuff is interchangable. For specifics I would contack those that own one. I just saw two at Thunder over Michigan. One is owned by Kevin Lockwood and goes by col.halftrack on this forum. He is also a good source for some parts. I would recomend him first. The other track I forget who owns that one but it was a nice one. Skate rails are very hard to come by. If you have an M4A1 with a pulpit there is no skate rail. the pulpit takes the place of that. As for the troleys for the skate rail, they do turn up on eBay and run $1000 and up. Hydrovacs are getting hard to find and harder to have one rebuilt that is good. You can go with a newer style for a lot less that is more reliable. Top bows, I posted drawings on how to make them on this forum. Check with steve0 on this site for a repo volt meter. Superjeep is a good source for most of the body items you are looking for including taillight and trailer socket mounts. Wiring harness, get from Vintage Wiring of Main. As mentioned, contact Portrayal Press for all the manuals. It is worth it. Thay can answer a lot of your questions. As for books I would get copies of R.P. Hunnicutt's Halftrack book along with David Doyle's Halftrack book for a start. Well woth it. As for the bolts. I will have most of what you need next Tuesday when my shipment arrives. I'm getting 50K 1" armor bolts at $.40 each and 50K 1.25" armor bolts at $.45 each delivered to me then. I had thes made and are new. The bulk of these two sizes will cover most of what you will need for your restoration. If interested in any bolts of have any other questions you can email me at chevy3100@comcast.net. Hope this helps to answer some of your questions.
