Main light switch
« on: January 09, 2017, 04:34:56 PM »
I’m cleaning up the main light switch and have hit a stump: There’s a spring-loaded washer with a tab on it that the shaft passes through and I can push the switch in but can’t pull it out without pushing on the tab on that washer. It acts like the lock on a caulking gun plunger, where it is slightly canted so the shaft can only slide one way and when you want to retract the plunger you have to press the tab to straighten the lock and then the plunger shaft is free to slide the other way. I don’t see what’s supposed to push on it to be able to pull the switch out. I don’t understand its purpose. Is it supposed to even be there?

I figgered it out. There's a sleeve that runs through the switch's mounting fitting. The switch collar with the locking button, when installed, pushes the sleeve against the tab washer tilting it upright and that lets the slide move freely back & forth. The tab washer evidently prevents the lights being pulled on without the collar/locking button installed.
