Tach cable threads?
« on: December 26, 2017, 12:17:19 PM »
I recently bought an NOS tach cable advertised as G102 but the distributor end of the cable is a different thread than the drive on the distributor. The collar on the cable is 27 T.P.I. and the distributor drive is 20 T.P.I. The engine is stock and original and I’m assuming the distributor drive is original as well, but I suppose it may have been changed out at some time. Does anyone know which is correct? Thanks.
Jon

Hello Jon,
I checked the one in the halftrack that has a separate tach drive inline with the distributor, I believe it is the early design. Also, checked a later nos distributor that has the tach drive in the distributor. Both are 18tpi, I used a thread file. Sorry to add to the confusion ;D

Thanks for the correction Gary. My old eyeballs have a hard time sometimes! You’re right - it is 18 TPI, not 20. In any case, the finer-thread tach cable is definitely the wrong part, not the distributor drive, and that’s what I wanted to confirm. I appreciate your help.

Hi Jon,
I've been looking for a cable myself lately and have seen and bid on a few but not won one yet. I think Rod posts them up pretty often.
Do you care to share who you purchased yours from so at least i can check pitch before I bid/buy?
Thanks!
Mark

Outsider makes new made replacement cables as original. I just installed a set on my halftrack. He does a great job in making them.

Mark-
I ordered the correct one from Rod Shaver. Might also check with Outsider as Steve suggested and I know Kevin Lockwood has reproductions and Dave Yamulla has some as well.
