tall head bolts used on halftracks
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:55:04 PM »
the original bolt heads used in the 40s where about 20% taller than the ones made today. if this is important to you i have found a source for the tall head bolts.
they are made by the caterpillar tractor company. you will still need to sand the head markings off, and i think they are kind of pricey.

mcmaster also has a tall head bolt but i think the top of the bolt has a depression.

Steve,

I believe McMaster-Carr also carries the high hex bolts.

thanks
i included them at the end of my post, i think they have a depression on top so by the time you sanded the top flat, you would have a regular bolt.
