M2 fuel line cover help?

I need to fabricate the fuel line covers for my M2A1 and want them to be reasonably close to originals. Before I do, I want to make sure it’s plumbed correctly. I don't remember why, but I used a straight fitting out of the tank and then turned the fuel line down to go under the floor. Is this right, or were they a 45-degree elbow out of the tank with the line heading straight out of it? I know the half-track won't care either way, but it might make a difference in the shape of the cover. ORD-9 shows a 90-degree elbow out of the tank, but it’s shown for an M3 or similar with the tanks in the front. I appreciate any help.
Jon

That's very interesting. Thanks Michael. Mine's a different configuration, I guess. A 90 wouldn't make sense on this since it's already pointed directly at the hole.

Now that I see which end is up, I recognize it. This tank has the fuel line outlet to the front and runs through the split seat bottom to accommodate the radio installation under the seat. The fuel line guard is on the tank cover, rather than the floor. I think the picture below is of Gary/yd328's half-track with the same installation.
My fuel line is in the rear and the guard is screwed to the floor.
