3 position Light Switch Question
« on: February 28, 2020, 01:32:11 PM »
Can anyone please explain the wire lugs on the back of the 3 position light switch.
There is nothing in the manual regards the switch that I have been able to find explaining each of the lugs.  I assume that when you pull the switch out to BO, pins are disengaged on the fiber board as it moves same with the Service position when you pull the switch all the way out.  Rewiring my dash and I would like to know what each of those lugs does.
I was assuming the following based on other military vehicles I have restored.
S=SERVICE LIGHT
SS=SERVICE STOP LIGHT
BS=BLACKOUT STOP
TT=TRAILER SOCKET
HT=HEADLIGHT
BHT=BLACKOUT LIGHTS
SW=? ..I see that is used for the 4 position switch and understand that it allows only the brake light to function when used.

Here’s what I have on the switch Mark:

B:  20A pwr.
SW:  Stop lt. switch @ master cyl. #14 Orange
TT:  Not used
SS:  Stop lt. switch @ master cyl. #15 Black/red
BHT:  Parking lt., B/O tail lights, B/O drive light switched #6 Red
HT:  Rheostat, service head lights, service tail lt. #4 Black
BS: Blackout stop light #10 Blue
S: Service stop light, left side only #8 Yellow

These are for an M2A1 so some will different for your M-16. The numbers refer to the wire assignments in TM 9-1710C. I hope you can use some of it.

Thanks Jon … that works for me … just need to run thru the wire schematic to see how it all works together.  The wire schematic I had from Vintage wire showed the same two collared wires (Yellow) for both Service Stop and Service.  Not making any sense so I just wanted to make sure that I understood the back of the three way switch and could go from there.  Am installing an original harness and donated the Vintage WH to someone else who needed one.

Hi Mark, Did you ever buy one of my Base Shop Data Books for the halftrack? It sure would help with the questions you are answering. Try this link with wiring info I posted in the past.

Steve I have not .. would like to purchase but just dont have that in my budget right now.  However I would be happy to purchase a copy of that wire diagram showing the pedestal lights.
