Rifle holder(s)?
« on: April 01, 2020, 11:08:16 PM »
Anyone have any documentation or pictures of the cab mounted rifle holders that supposedly went behind the driver (and passenger) seats?  I don’t see how one would fit behind the passenger seat as that is where the fire extinguisher is mounted, but the Ord 9 lists two as being required.

Thanks for the pic Steve, and the info Kevin.  So far only been able to confirm they were installed in M15 variants and M16 variants...but not M3s/M3A1s.  I have seen a few pictures of restored halftracks with a holder behind the driver (and/or passenger seat), but nothing original...most of the photos aren’t at the right angle or of the cab area.

I’ve just been investigating this for my M16, I picked up a driver seat and floor from a chap in France and it still had the rifle holder bracket fitted. Mike France confirmed for me that the bracket is the same for both holders, top and bottom (just counter sunk in different places).

most rifle holders removed after war as bottom of rifle holder snags hip when entering and exiting

Mike,
Can you confirm that the upper and lower bracket dimensions are the same?  Also, what is the angle of that bend?

Thanks, Tom

yes both are same,  floor bends up,   bulkhead bends to rear of vehicle as pictured above.
1"  bend starts  (angle is 2 degree)
