What is this rack ?

What model came with this rack above the windshield armor? Was this something added in the field? Anyone have better pictures or diagrams? This image is of Patton’s hearse.

As far as I've been able to tell, it's simply a field modification.  The soldiers liked how the windshield armor acted as a storage area, but still wanted that area when the armor was lowered.  Therefore, they just made a shelf, independent of the windshield armor.  There is another sample of a halftrack with this mod in David Doyles halftrack book on page 253.

Field modification.  I've seen period photos of Officers using that area to spread there maps out. Appeared they had a cut board they could easily put up there and pronto they had a makeshift desk.
