Pulling Trany
« on: August 16, 2020, 08:19:30 AM »
Has anyone dropped their trany without pulling the engine?  I pulled my transfer case without pulling the engine without to much difficulty... hoping I can pull my trany the same way.  Would drop the transfer case before pulling to alleviate some of the weight.  Just wondering....

I made a support to replace the pad on a large floor jack and removed the transmission and transfer case together. Once lowered, roll them back as far as you can and there's room to service the clutch and flywheel. Make sure your jack has a wide enough footprint and your support is stable. And of course don't let any part of you get under it.

Will do..looked at your other posting, does not look that complicated to drop, and I'll be using my engine hoist to assist  ;) .

I've done this many times without removing the engine. I even did a one day clutch change. That was a very long day but can be done. I can send you my clutch alignment tool if you need it. Give me a call, I left a message on your phone. Good luck!!

Yep, we left the transmission and transfer case married when we did ours.

Along with the clutch alignment tool you can also get some long bolts for the bell housing. Cut the heads off of the bolts. Now you have some studs to help guide it back together.
