I think my M3 donor was in an experiment?

Has anyone ever found their Halftrack to be magnetic? I don’t mean just a little bit, I mean everything! I’m having a real mare with swarf slinging to every piece. The only good thing is I have no metal on the garage floor and I’ve got somewhere to stick my sockets whilst I’m stripping.

I have no idea, it’s pretty much every piece, it wasn’t to bad to start with but now I’m working on parts in my work shop, every little iron filing is finding it’s way on to the parts. Even after blasting, some still remain and I have to try and pull off those last bits by hand.

It was probably used by the French in a Nuclear bomb test!

Next time in the garage I will stick a socket and screwdriver on the hood. What I need to do now is find a way to lose the magnetic properties on a large scale.

Think you have to heat it up to a high temp. Is that the only part magnetized?

Unfortunately not, it everything fro the hood back to the back of the cab. I could do with one of those degouser rigs the minesweepers used in WW2.

Can't you just get a few of these and rub them all over the truck?

My dad once told me that this can happen if the steel plate was smacked real hard with a hammer at just the right place. Maybe someone smacked your armor to get it to fit right. My dad also said you could smack it out too. Your lucky, my halftrack just sucks money away from me.

That’s an idea, one panel at a time wouldn’t be to difficult over a few weeks.

It’s not just one panel though, it’s every one of them, and all the attaching parts including engine. I’m inclined to think that, as suggested, it’s been under or close to a power line or similar.

So, having had some drinks and thinking about this. Remember whan CRT's where comon they had degaussing rings to corect magnetic disruption in the tubes. So i looked and found this:

Not sure if it would work but i bet with a little reserch or ingenuity you can bud a degaussing magnet or buy one that would. Id lose my mind having to deal with them metal pins all over my parts! Best of luck!

I have heard this on aircraft it really messes up the compass ...You have to rap your welder hot positive cable around the machine and touch it to the ground line...from what i have heard this should fix your problem ....good luck....
