T48 sold

Any one here get the T48 halftrack (M3 with winch, and a live 57mm cannon mounted on it) that was being sold by the late Jack Tomlin? It was posted at $85.000.00 when sold. Beautiful halftrack.

I asked for the serial number but didn't get it. They did confirm it was a replica and did not have the correct serial number for a T48 which should begin with a T48xxxx

It is really sort of a cross between a T-48 and M3 75 gmc. The stowage for the rounds was setup like a 75gmc and it had a rear door also like the 75. It is a georgous track.

All four Polish T-48 don’t have number stamped on frame.   
There is number stamped on the front wall of the lower carriage

Hi Janusz,

According to the best evidence the T48 serial numbers began with T48. There was a rough example on ebay with a lengthened frame several years ago with the number intact and I believe Joe DeMarco on the G503 tracked section on halftrack serial numbers thread confirms that as well. Perhaps the Russians removed the serial numbers or maybe they rusted thru. As I recall that frame from the one in Poland is very rusty. I don't think Diamond T stamped their numbers as deep as White did either.

Last asking price on that was 85k but it might have sold for a good deal less. It was a lot of work to not get the details correct. I would have loved to have given it a personal inspection to see what the gun mount for the 57mm looked like and how it was attached to the frame.  It was also painted in USMC colors and of course the Marines never used the T48. Personally i think Jack was making an M3-75GMC replica and used a 57 instead of the 75 since they are MUCH easier to find.
