We need help with one measurement, please!
« on: August 07, 2022, 07:03:07 PM »
Shon and I are fabricating our own pulpit armor and brackets. We've gotten almost everything done and need one last measurement. Lots of guys have been extremely helpful with all kinds of dimensions but nobody has the one length that we need.

What we are hoping for is if anyone could please take a string and measure the total length of the main big piece of armor. If we get this we would finally be able to complete our setup!  Since our radius is not exactly the perfect curve (we used a torch and our unditching roller and it's close enough for us!) it affects some of the measurements we've been given to help us determine the last crease/bend we need to make to finish this. If we know the overall length, it solves everything for us. We think our piece is about 2-3 inches too long.

If you look at the pictures below, the first picture has a thin red line that illustrates what I'm trying so poorly to explain.  We need a string measurement from one end to the other.

Help us, please!

Thanks,

Corey

Thanks Jesse,

We have that specific diagram and it is one of the MANY great documents that has gotten us so far. But it doesn't give us that measurement that we're looking for! We need the total length measurement so we know where to cut it. Using your picture, our piece is too long on the top left end. Because of this, we can't use the 31.5" measurement that we need to make our final crease/bend. And since our curve for the 6" radius was so crudely made, we can't really rely on the other two angles provided to give us the final bend either.

Thank you so much for trying to help us though! We appreciate it.

EDIT: Just talked to Shon and he told me that you, Jesse, were the one that sent us the majority of the measurements and drawings we needed for all of these parts and pieces. Thanks so much for all of the help you've given us.  This guy has been an absolute hero to us during this project and we wouldn't have been able to do all of this without Jesse.

Here's the measurement on mine, Corey. I'm not certain it's perfect though, as it's a reproduction and required some fixing to make it as right as I could get it. I included the bend over the door and a shot of the end of it relative to the original skate rail mounting location and the center screw over the ammo locker door so you can compare it to any pictures you may have of others or an original one. I hope this helps!

Jon

Thanks so much Jon!  I appreciate your time and effort. I wonder if the fact that your armor is reproduction would affect that measurement? Surely anyone reproducing these would take efforts to make sure a measurement like that is accurate?

You would think so, and the rear edge of the armor on mine may be spot on, but enough of the rest of it wasn't even close so that's why I wanted you to know it's a reproduction. Several of the other reproductions that I looked at while sorting mine out are not all that accurate either. I imagine the originals varied somewhat as far as an ending point for the armor goes though. I finally just figgered if it looks right, it is right!

Shon and I are constantly having to remind ourselves of this all the time. It's a great point.
