Rear differential
« on: March 24, 2024, 05:11:38 PM »
I just pulled the rear differential out of the axle housing and replace all the bearings. I’m having a bit of a hard time getting the contact pattern right and may also need pinion shims. Who Carrie’s them now and any tips on getting things set up and back in would be welcome. Sure wish I did it before I put the bed on a couple of years ago. Thanks

TM 9-1710A has all of the information you need to set up the differentials. It's just a lot of tedious moving the pinion in & out and the differential back & forth until the contact pattern and backlash are satisfactory. But the design of the rear axle makes it a pretty easy process. As far as pinion shims go, you might try Dana Spicer. They have very helpful tech support and they should be able to supply any of the stuff you need for the job or direct you to a source.
