Fuel senders
« on: August 01, 2024, 10:39:49 AM »
All right everybody ,  I am stumped on why my fuel senders are reading on the fuel gauge, half tank to full with full travel of the float???  I’ve tested two sets of senders, a new French made set and Stewart Warner’s .  Both read the same.    0 to 400 ohms full to empty and read incrementally  while moving the float up and down.   So they test ok with a multimeter .

Can anyone help me out here?

I do not have the ignition switch condenser connected thinking it’s for radio suppression. Does it have to be installed connected for the fuel senders and coil?

I was told that the remedy was to install another resistor or capacitor or such in line to make the French version work correctly?    Anybody with experience with this solution?

Thanks in advance

Make sure you have a good ground. You should have a wire going from one of the sender mounting screws to ground. Also, for those who have primed and painted their halftrack, make sure you have good grounding throughout the halftrack, bare metal to bare metal. This includes the steering column for the horn.

Thanks for the reply Steve

I think I have figure it out.  It was a combination of everything.  Took apart the NOS fuel gauge cleaned the terminals, adjusted the needle made sure it wasn’t sticking or rubbing the faceplate.  Checked all the grounds, added an extra grounding  cable . Added the ignition switch Condensor , Checked power to the the senders.  Worked the senders many times, rechecked the throw , ohms and connections .   So now the left tank sender works with the gauge!   Will go through the right side tank next hoping for for the same outcome.
