M3 Restoration

Been working on a lot of little parts and mounting them on the frame. Here are some shots of my frame as I'm putting on the brake lines and the wiring harness:

The engine  is being torn down as we speak. Do have to put in some .020 over pistons and rings. Bore taper is at the limit along with the intake valves. But everything else is looking really good. I'm pretty sure this was refurbed in the 50's.

Hope to have the engine, trans and transfer back byu the end of next month. If Steve gets healed up we'll probably try to re track it next Monday.

Don't forget Tower Park is sneaking right up on us!

Made more progress on Don's halftrack. The brakes are all bled and work! He only had a few leaks. Some fitting were not tight. Today we moved his track back into building 1 in front of mine to start putting the track suspension back together. We got the rear idler hubs back on and all greased up. We also filled the rear axle with gear oil. Don is going to grease up everything Thursday. Hopefully by Friday It will have new tracks on it. I hope to do some de-greasing on mine this weekend.

Well Steve and I made a big jag on the track friday night, got all the greasing done and the rear diff filled with oil. We bleed the brakes a few nights ago. but the big jag was getting the boogies back on. She's sitting on her own suspension again. We're going to track it tomorrow.

Ok now we went and did it! She's tracked Man been waiting for that to happen. Glad there was 3 of us Steve, his dad and me. Going to invest in some longer pry bars before we do Steve's tracks

Well like the karate kid, tracks on, tracks off Found a puddle of oil under the rear drum Steve and I got really good at pulling the R/ side brake drum on the rear axle. Put in a new seal leaked again. Put in a speedy sleave (not cheap) leaked again. Now I'm getting a little frustrated at this point. I begining to think I've got a casting flaw in the drum. It only leaks with the drum in one position.
So after another frustration just happen to pick up the old seal and I see:



So off comes the drum AGAIN and we find this:



Anyway took care of the issues in the seal surface. So she's back on the ground and we moved her over to the other shop.



The engine shoud be here in 2 weeks

Got a call from Steve, My engine and tranny came back from the mechanic. It showed up at the shop yesterday. All I can say is WOW, hope she runs as good as it looks. Thanks to Matt for the attention to detail.







It will be exciting to get it into the track

Well I'm breaking down the last major component for restoration, the cowl. Now to get the the parts to the sand blaster. Then to restore the dash I think now it's parts going back on!!!

Well got some big chunks done this last week. I decided to sit my floor on the halftrack. Looks realy good, another outstanding Outsider production! Steve, Matt and myself also got ambitious and installed the engine and trans. I needed some alone time with the track when we were done
