Paint and primer
« on: May 04, 2012, 06:03:27 AM »
Hi guys a quick question on primer. Up until now I have been cleaning small parts(for a halftrack) and priming with rustoleum primer. Have been getting down to bare metal and cleaning good before priming.  Is rustoleum a good primer to continue to use for the bigger stuff when I get around to it. Or should I be using something else? Also I will be painting transmission and t case soon Any suggestions for color and primer. Also will be going with the 319 shade for final color. Thanks

i used rustoleum on some big parts and it worked great. i picked it up in gallon containers at home depot when i ran out of rapco.
as long as your primer and your topcoat are oil base you should be ok.

rustoleum thins with acetone which had me worried until i talked to a few different paint suppliers.

I also have used Rustoleum red oxide primer on entire vehicles for years, works great. Only differance is I prefer to thin with mineral spirits. When we painted our motor & tranny / transfer I used a paint color "Machinery Grey"
