1943 M4A1 to M2A1 restoration
« on: September 05, 2012, 09:05:37 PM »
I had posted in another tread when I first got this, but figured i'd start a resto post. Started life as an M4A1 but am converting to M2A1 for ease of parts. I purchased here in Ontario Canada out of Cornwall. price was $8700, which included a crate french motor. As you will see in the pics there was alot to be done on her. I started stripping her down Nov 2011.

The resto begins

Cutting off all the post war crap, bought a plasma cutter just for this!!!

I have started painting some of the armor and am waiting on the left cab mount/peddle assembly at the machine shop (bushings for peddles being made) so i can assemble the cab etc. I have decided to POR 15 the front armor/dash because of rust, so extra steps involved in painting. I have also decided to paint the exterior in a base coat first, assemble all the body, then final coat of paint in the end, just so i don't have to worry about scratches etc with all the work that's left to be done.

More pics to come soon!

Well, been a bit, so here's where i'm at as of now

A shot of the rad armor before and after

Started to paint all the armor while waiting for the machine shop to make new bushings in the clutch/brake pedal assembly. Until i got it back, I couldn't install the cab, which meant all the armor was kicking around

Mount back and assembly starts

I'm glad i haven't done final paint on the panels yet, all the new door hardware arnt fitting right and have had to remove them to modify them
