« on: January 11, 2013, 06:09:02 AM »
I'm going to pick up my engine for the shop soon and will need to get it out of the track and in the garage. I might or might not need the lift to put the engine back in. Can I get way with a 1 to lift or do I need the 2 ton.can pick one up at harbor freight for about 170 to 200. Thanks guys

Stay away from the Harbor freight picker. It's fine for picking up toyota engines but I wouldn't pick a HT engine with it. If you can find an A frame crane that would be better. Actually it's not that difficult to build a decent over head crane. Alot  more stable. The one we used to pick my engine out Steve found used for a good price.

Here is some shots of the crane we use it a ton for everything and it's very mobile and very precise. Even using heavy equipment can be a little dicy sometimes. The engine is big and heavy and you don't want to get hurt working on this.

What Don said, I have read somewhere that these engines are in the area of 1500 lbs. Another thing about the engine hoists is that they are usually rated with the the lift arm in the shortest position on the beam and you will not have the reach that you will need since you will more than likely have to extend it out to get the reach you need. Then you have to move the heavy engine when it is up in the air, to clear the frame, and this can be very unstable with an engine hoist.

I can say they are 1500 or more. I used my bobcat to move mine around, and when complete less tranny it tipped the rear wheels off the ground at times. My cat is rated for 1600 lift
