Air Filter Mount Spacer?
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:57:31 AM »
My M2 was converted by E.W. Willy to a M2A1 it has the late version air filter with the rear intake and guard that protrudes past the mount brackets, the filter was mounted right against the firewall and possibly bubba cut a hole in the wall and welded up some drill stem pipe and made an overhead breather up through the cowl (not bad idea and done a decent job).  My question is, did the late series air filter have a spacer between the mounting brackets and the firewall?  Have not found any good pictures or parts listing to settle how I need to fix this.

No spacers. There is a bubba cut hole in the firewall on retrofitted halftracks with latter ones having the hole stamped cut from the factory.

Thanks Steve,
It did not look right but seeing it in the picture you posted, yours looks just like mine except for yours did not have a nice little steel bubba box and 3" well pipe going up through the cowl that weighed almost 20 pounds.  Was there a seal in the firewall or even a cover besides what was on the filter can inside the cab?  Thanks again had started to patch the hole, so instead will just get rid of the torch splatter and put back together.

Andy I would suspect so the engine could draw cleaner air in instead of all the dust and crap that would be stired up by the front wheels. Especially in the desert. It would seam logical.
