M-16 for sale

It's an M15A1 chassis in M16A2 configuration. I'm starting to think a few M15's were rebuilt into M16a2 instead of M16a1. I've seen 3 or 4 like this now. What do you guys think? If it was legit would it have an M16a2 data plate? By legit I mean not restored to this configuration by a collector.

Someone might get this for a song!  Data plate implies this is an M16A1…not an A2.

The last few I've seen come up on GovLiq seems like they sold in the mid $40k's.  This one looks pretty nice IMO. Seems to run/drive well in the video.

I agree yet the rear body is in A2 config with the cutouts and short rear door. iirc the reference books indicate only M16's were converted into A2 so they would have all had winches yet here is another roller model A2 made from an M15. Maybe during rebuild if they found a chassis problem they took the rear body and swapped it to a good frame.

im currently restoring an m16A2 and this one has a few items that i needed to measure up.
i  went to see it today.
its missing the floor box behind the quad mounting plate and the plate under the rear door is not correct.

the rear door is made from 5/16 plate which i think is original.
the front center seat is a drivers seat.
the bulkhead behind the seats may not be correct.
this is a white halftrack but most of the screws are not lined up.

the rear armor is all original.
its a very nice halftrack

one thing i was mistaken about on m16 halftracks is that i thought there where 2 styles of original fold down armor.
what i found out after looking at this halftrack is that when they converted to m16A2 they cut another 1/2" out of the fold down armor cutouts. if you look at the side rear fold down piece you will see that extra drop. i had thought that extra drop was original from other pictures i have seen and some parts i have.

It should be an Autocar it has an M15A1 serial number stamped on the frame. The data plate has the 4 digit serial from the frame stamped on it.

That's interesting about the A2 cutouts being a half inch deeper.

If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the 3rd or 4th in the past year.  I was initially surprised that the military would still have halftracks to dispose of. I believe that private parties can sell through GovLiq also now which explains the sudden availability of such things.

On a side note, I did  have the opportunity to visit an abandoned halftrack on a mountainside in Utah a week or so ago.  I took a bunch of pictures that I will post once I get them re-sized small enough.  Some of the pictures are on Facebook on the White Halftrack page  - I think Don G. may know the ones.

No kidding I don't get this at all. This track was for sale for 19k for a long time with no takers. I was under the impression GL buyers were savvy but if these sales are legit then these buyers are really being taken to the cleaners. More money than brains I guess. Just think what GL could do with the Littlefield collection.
