windshield MG mount?
« on: June 05, 2014, 08:16:51 PM »
Steve1973, I think this is your track. Is that a machine gun mount on the perimeter rail at the center of the windshield? Got any more pictures of it?

Yes, it is mine. It's not original but gives me a place to mount my 50. ;D It is the same casting as the three in the rear. Any specific photos you want?

Did you use the mounting bracket for the casting like the rear ones use? or make one? I like it may put one there, going to run out of guns if I keep putting on mounts. :(

Here are some more photos. Yes, it is the same casting as used in the rear. The 4th of july parade was the first time useing it with guns mounted driving slow. The guns were dismounted to and from the parade. Last Saturday I had all the guns mounted ad drove at speed, 35 mph, to and from the car show. The 50 flexed on the parimeter rail front to back quite a bit and I ended up holding the rear of the gun to stablize it while driving. I also had problems with the pins in the travel arms on the rear 30's vibrating loose going down the road. For the 50 I will either need to drive at speed without the gun or beef up the parimeter rail or make some sort of travel bar for it. For the rear 30's I think I will use some wire or a locking collar on the pins so they don't come out.

Thanks Steve, wondered how well the gun would clear the top of the armor, looks good.

That looks great, my only concern is the mount flexing. Would a block bolted on (in red) even if just resting on the windshield frame would support gun better

Steve1973, I think if you bolted your perimeter rail to the windshield angle iron that it may stiffen your mount. Also if you don't bolt it having the gun mounted while going down the road may cause the welds along the top to crack.

Disclamer...Not in any way picking, just observing.

steve 1973  I am looking at your pictures of the permitter rail. My rail seems to be running to the top of the windshield frame instead of the lower flat area. Looking at my windshield frame i can see where there was a 1/4 in piece of flat or something bolted straight down to frame. I am assuming that it was something to do with holding the front rail. I cannot see how your corners match up but it seems your doors and all the armor is about 2 inches loweer than mine. Can i see some more pictures to see how your rail meets up to the winshield rail please.

Thanks John

On further looking I can see the angle iron on the inside top of frame. That is what your permitter rail is welded to.

Thanks for the pictures.

Sprouse the P-Rail is bolted to the angle iron the angle iron is bolted window frame. See page 10 of my thread as I have P-rail laid out after I welded and drilled it. I also have the measurement for the angle iron.
