i have heard that the steering knuckle boots for the m35 trucks use the same boot as the halftrack. can anyone confirm this?
-
Steve,
That sounds interesting. I also think that there are 2 versions of the rubber boots, one that is completely
rubber covered and another that has a canvas section in between. Can anyone confirm this?
This is what is on my early M2A1:

the one that ripped was canvas covered with rubber. if thats what you have there, yours look a little better than the ones i used. the all rubber ones are very flexible but a small cut doesn't stay small, it just keeps traveling.

Hello
The boots fit perfectly from the M35 and are made of rubber
NOS boots are made of cotton and rubber, which are too old and hard
the M35 boots stuck inside with "Sikaflex 260" first, then 2 days later outside
Screw and glue then wait several days before you take control
otherwise make it's "plopp" :'(
it is with new shoes but still much work >:(

Anyone bought a set of knuckle boots for the M35 lately? What is the best source these days?
-
can't find the link in my ebay history, but I just installed a set. There are only a couple vendors for the boots on ebay.
Make sure you have an extra set of hands when you go to install. Since I had the front end completely apart, I got the 1 piece setup (no zipper).
It's definitely a three handed job.
Good luck!
-
Thanks Darth checked ebay and mecoparts has them for 60 bucks per side. I have a dumb question. Can they be installed at any time or do they have to be installed before the steering knuckles?
This is where I'm at now.

If you're using the one piece, you have to remove the knuckle. If you have the zipper setup, I think you can do it at anytime.
-
i used the zipper type and still had to remove the knuckle to get the inner band on. i think you can do it when its all together but its difficult
they are on ebay for 55 per side with the bands

When Don and I did his boot the axle was completely assembled with tires on. It was difficult but we did it. It's tricky getting the bans on and started but manageable. Just need patients. ;D We used a later NOS halftrack set. I think wit the M35 sets it should be much easier as there will be less shrinkage in the boot.

Thanks for the help guys.

I used a NOS set, put them out in the sun and used a heat gun to install. They were still a little tight but they are on there ;D.

I ordered a set of M35 boots to use the front knuckle assembly. Do not order the sets with the large zipper. They will not stay on. I ordered another identical set with smaller zippers and some slightly different inner lock rings. They went on the first time and have stayed during some hard steering.

Hey halifaxgroup,
Where or who did you order yours from? I need to replace the ones on our M2A1.
Thank you, KC
