What are you guys using to connect the cable to the chain on the winch for your halftrack. I’m a little nervous about cutting then welding a pear link for the connection and am having trouble finding something close looking to original. These are what I have been looking at

I don’t want to worry if I ever get stuck or have to pull someone else out and have the connection break. Thanks.

OK, first the winch cable. You should have around 200 to 220 feet of 5/8" cable. At the end of the hook chain assembly that mates up to the cable should be a pear ring. The cable is fed through the pear ring back onto itself to form a loop. The cable is secured to itself by a double ended cable nut. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply steve. Haven’t been able to find an original chain and hook setup so that’s why I’m looking for an alternative

is there a preferred type of 5/8" cable to use?
galvanized? rotation resistant?
6x19? 1x7? 19x19?
didn't mean to hijack the post, but I am in the process of wiring my winch as well...
thanks!
