Frame filter

Question. I can't find a frame filter in any of my WW2 tm's. The only tm that I own showing the frame filter is tm 9-710 from 1953. My track was partially overhauled postwar with the addition of extra pioneer tool fittings. When I added my frame filter, I found the top of the original frame filter and the fasteners attached horizontally (wtf?) to the inside frame, about 4 inches forward of where it's shown in the later tm. So I've installed an nos frame filter, vertically, as in the tm, and so far it's the biggest leaking point. Were the frame filters used during WW2, and is it required, even with the carb filter? I'd love to remove it, but if it's correct to an early track, required, or a good idea to have on, I guess I'll just make new gaskets and apply more teflon.

i had the same problem when i did some research on this filter. the filter number information i posted was a result of numbers i found on original filters then put into a google search which connected other vehicles that use the same filter. all of the halftracks i have seen have this filter so im going to say they where  originally equipped this way. you should use a filter before your fuel pump but you could buy an inline filter for $3 instead of $100 and who would know. i remember the jeep people talking about using a fram paper filter in the original housing that i should list when i find that number again.

here is the number for the paper filter that some people are using, it's the pleated paper version that fis the T-2 housing.

I just checked the 3042 filter. So are you saying this might fit the original frame filter housing? It looks similar in size to the brass washer stack in my original. Thanks for the info Steve.
