Help with battery wire?
« on: February 12, 2017, 08:11:14 PM »
Can someone tell me how the 6GA wire runs from the battery to the ammeter? I have it in the loom out of the dash board running with the horn wires as far as the horn relay but how does it continue from the relay to the battery? Does it just duck under the firewall and head to the bolt on the positive terminal of the battery through the same hole as the positive battery cable? I've looked for detail pictures but I can't come up with any. Anyone have any pictures? Thanks for the help!

The battery has it's own cable that goes directly to the starter.

I mean the 6 GA wire that goes from the battery to the ammeter, not he positive cable to the starter. It's in the loom that runs across the top of the firewall and fires up everything else. It's shown going to the positive terminal on the battery but I just want to know how it's routed.

OK, so I looked in my halftrack body and chassis manual and has several pages on each wire harness and the breakdown of the wires in each. It also shows several firewall diagrams and other schematics. So, the battery to ammeter wire belongs to the right side harness. This originates in the dash and goes through the main firewall hole (Largest of holes on firewall), travels horizontally to the passenger side and straight down by the horns. This harness contains wires going to the battery, horn relay X2 and right gas tank sender. At the bottom of the firewall it travels down to the inner right frame c-channel and goes to the rear. Another book that has some great references to this is the Halftrack M2 Base Shop Data book that I sell. It has wire harness to frame reference drawing and a brake line drawing that I used for my current restoration. If you need me to post these pages let me know and I will try and get it done by the end of the week.

I found this image handy showing harness location.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Steve! That's what I needed. I can see the loom splits after the last clamp and the 6GA wire just goes under the firewall and then it'd have to go through the same grommet that the battery cable runs through to the positive post on the battery while the other wire runs down the frame to the right fuel tank. I appreciate the help.
