I believe it’s for self-propelled artillery.

That is a good question. In reality, it could be either or since even a jeep in a self-propelled unit would have that marking.
Can you make out any of the markings to the left and right of the symbol?

The left looks like 4 over 34 and the right looks like 2 over CA.
