AX 160 rebuilds
« on: June 28, 2014, 01:43:21 AM »
Just had a question about the Engines we have.  I have a block that is decent condition but it looks like it was run out of oil.  I know I can get pistons, But I was wondering if it can be sleeved to retain the stock pistons that i have. Or more to the point if there is a sleeve out there that will work with them. Just curious. I'm guessing it would be cheaper to get a set of pistons. Still like to check my options though.

Hi glad to see your started on it.
Sleeves are an option but your better off to take the head off and measure I believe they went to .40 over if the block has not been rebuilt it should clean and smooth at .20
And I see listings at about 300 for that size
I consider sleeves a last resort.

The pistons go up to .060. I have a few sets of those.

The block is in good shape. I'm going to go .20 over with the pistons and I will have to find new cam, rod and crank bearings. the crank was a bit rough from the bearings going out.  But I hope to have it running in the next year. Lots of work to do...
