i have the full story on the halftrack. the following is a copy of the emails between dave and i. if you have any info on this halftrack you can contact him at
darohr@msn.comHi Steve,
Thanks for contacting us about the halftrack. I belong to the Fernley Preservation Society and we manage the depot as a museum. This is one of those deals where we know who took it and we know where it is but we have no proof. We posted it on our website in case somebody, somewhere might come forward with some info. The person that took it had it on loan to the museum for display and he always claimed he was the legal owner but who knows? He was also a board member with the FPS and was caught embezzling. He refused to admit it and would not pay up so we were able to put a legal hold on all of his property at the depot. That halftrack is in pretty good shape and is running and drivable. He broke into the depot grounds and drove it out the gate and on to a trailer - we followed the tracks! I wish I could mention this guys name but since we can't prove anything I don't think that's a good idea. We should have recorded a vin# or something since it was on loan but failed to do so on this. Since the embezzling and theft we have been finding out more about him and turns out he has left a 50 mile trail of debt, theft, lies, and embezzlement between here and Carson City. Please feel free to post the whereabouts of this halftrack right here in Fernley, NV. Now like I said, we can't prove it but there is something under a big blue tarp on this guys property that has the distinct shape of that same halftrack in the photos. This guy is so guilty his whole family can't show their faces around town and everybody in town knows it.
BTW, any idea what it's worth? I've heard $15k a few years ago but I don't know. Thanks.
Dave
hello dave
thats an interesting story, i have about 18 of these old halftracks. mine all came off farms where they would remove all the rear armor so yours having all the original rear armor really jumps the price up. i would say between $20,000 to $25,000
would you mind if i posted your story of the halftrack on my site?

hello steve
I got some more info today. The guy that stole the halftrack did have the title at one time but he gave it up when he defaulted on a loan from the late Bert Emerson. Bert was holding the title as security and we believe he had it transferred to his name but unfortunately there are no documents to be found and a DMV search was no help. The reason we are considering it stolen is because it obviously still belongs to the Emerson family but we just can't do anything about it. This is the way this guy operates. Everybody that knows him has been ripped off including myself. He has run out of friends and support in this town and we are hoping he will move on to the next. If anybody out there knows who I'm talking about, He's the one currently living in Fernley, NV and grew up in Virginia City and has lived in the Stagecoach and Silver Springs areas. We would love to nail this guy for something but he seems to know how to just fly under the radar. A real pro.
One more thing, the gun in the pictures was not stolen with the halftrack. It has since been sold by the FPS to a private party and is being restored.
Yes, please feel free to post any or all of this on your site including my email in case anybody has some info. We're hoping it might jar somebody's memory about something they might be looking for. This guy has a lot of stuff on his property yet he's always broke!
Thanks Steve.
Dave
