Armor bolt source found

I went down to my local bolt supplier, Eugene Fasters, and they did a search and came up with a 3/8" -24 slotted head oval bolt that is just over 1 1/4". It looks very close to the original. It does have some raised manufacture marks on the head that can be easily ground off. The slot isn't as wide as original and is slightly offset. I've found some originals slightly offset also. The price is $.75 for 100 or more or $.45 for 500 or more. I'm sure for a larger quantity we can get the price even cheaper. Here in a photo of three samples next to an original on the right.

your my hero
i must have sent out over 20 emails to bolt suppliers and none of them had those. from the pic it looks like the head might be slightly smaller, can you fit it to a piece of armor to see how they fit? probably just an optical illusion. i did find a manufacturer that would make them if i purchased 25 thousand for about 20 cents each.

Here are a few more photos on how they fit. The red one is an original bolt.

What is the length of the threaded part? And do they have other lengths available also?
Even the bolts gary sells have markings on some of the heads.
I have searched hi and lo looking for a source for these as I have had several inquiries for these, but been unable to locate any other than to 2 normal dealers.
I would be interested in getting 500 of these to help on a group buy if that helps.

I am in Canada so shipping is a pain but I do go to the US lots and if anyone is intrested I can ship them. I have no idea if anyone needs or wants any nor do I know what they are worth but I am willing to help anyone who needs some for what everyone thinks is a fair price. Eddy
Tryed to post pictures but it would not let me.
My email is

I can send pics if anyone is intrested. Eddy
All have been given away. I may have some more but will have to find them. Eddy

Hello Gang,
I am curious as to how many slotted screws takes for the armor on a typical M2 Halftrack?
And what lengths are needed? I know an ebayer is selling original Slotted Screws that are
3/8-24 X 1 1/2 long, I also have heard that some are 3/8-24 X 1 1/4 Long?
Does anyone have a complete hardware list?
Thanks in Advance!
Mike

If I remember correctly I read some where that there are like 800 armor bolts in a vehicle.
In section 1820 of the 1944 ORD 8 it lists the following lengths of armor bolts: 7/16, 29/32, 1 1/32, 1 5/32, and 1 9/32. I could not find where it gave any totals for how many of each were actually in the vehicle.
Any body want to go out to their track and do a count?

When I got my first halftrack from Gary Hebding he told me that there were 700 bolts.

As for armor bolt count this is what yoony on the G503 told me
for the amor plates:
screw, fl head 3/8-24 1 1/32 qty 39
screw, fl head 3/8-24 1 9/32 qty 8
screw, oval-hd 3/8-24 7/16 qty 6
screw, oval-hd 3/8-24 29/32 qty 131
screw, oval hd 3/8-24 1 1/32 qty 433
screw, oval hd 3/8-24 1 5/32 qty 196
screw, oval-hd 3/8-24 1 9/32 qty 42
nut, safety 3/8-24 qty - 905
As for the bolts I found Thomas wants me to pursue getting him some of these bolts. If interested please send me quantity wanted and your shipping address. Sending me an email to
chevy3100@clearwire.net
is the best way to get a hold of me.
Thanks,

So, I contacted the fastener place today and because it has been over a year since they did the quote they will need to start over as they did not remember who the source was. As soon as I get the info again I will let you know.

I could use at least several hundred round and flat head bolts will also need the Autocar style nuts also.
