Bought a Halftrack!
« on: November 08, 2017, 03:13:18 AM »
I finally did it. I purchased a half track. I don't have it home yet, but will post pictures as soon as possible. The front cab is only missing the windshield armor and battery box cover. What I will need immediately is a carburetor. There's not much left of the rear armor.
My wife thinks I've gone off the deep end!

Congratulations on the halftrack!! As for the carburetor keep an eye out on eBay. They come up frequently. Look for Stromberg AAV-2. There are some other numbers to look for as there are two types of AAV-2. I think I posted them on the forum before. Also, if the track has been sitting outside with the carb off there is a good chance water has gotten in the engine and possibly seized it. That happened to one of my halftracks.

You have gone off the deep end......welcome to the pool.....
Read everything on this site and start saving pictures of parts and assemblies people have posted, really helps trying to figure out what a halftrack is supposed to look like.

Actually, whoever worked on the track last, covered the carb hole. When you pull the dipstick, it looks like the oil is brand new. The engine has been freshly painted. It also turns. The starter was missing as well as the rotor and carb. Our optimistic theory is that the motor was rebuilt, and the previous owner never got it back together. Unfortunately he passed away. Keeping my fingers crossed. If it runs, then I really got a bargain!

That's great Dane. If you do want to check you can remove the one of the push rod covers and look to see if it is clean or dirty. I sell new gaskets for them if needed.
