Save the old bogies for cores to have recoated in the future. Or you can sell them.

Frank,

Like Mark said, keep them for yourself or sell them.  Unless they are broken or have been melted with a torch they can be retread.  Rust is not a big deal, it can be sandblasted off and the wheels will be fine.  Personally I would at least keep the old wheels for a while before getting rid of them, at least a few events.  This whole thing was started when I got NOS wheels from someone and they peeled off at the first event after only about 6 miles.   Back to your question of are there enough out there?  Probably so, but now that people know that they can be retread I think they will be less willing to part with them.  Also with the production of new tracks, two of the pieces that are harder to find substitutions are being replaced.  Which hopefully means more halftracks will be restored.

Got my bogie wheels back.  New tread looks great!  Final cost was higher than expected, $110 per wheel.  Shipping thru fastenal was $125 down there and $125 back.  Cant really complain about the shipping cost for something this heavy!  We'll see how these hold up, but others have had great luck thus far.

I am glad you guys like them and you are starting to get them back.  I have been meaning to ask you all about them.  I have one order to ship out, hopefully today.  I need to pick up another 16 and ship them out.

I have to say it took them about a month to do 100 wheels.  I also I am quite proud that my truck was able haul all 100 of them without a problem.

Rich,

Are you putting together a new order? I have a few I'd like to get done as well. And if so, what prep is required?

Thanks,

John

No prep required John! Unfortunately, it will require a significant volume to get done and it was hard to coordinate with other people getting the wheels to Rich. Rich could tell you better but hopefully this helps.

I will talk to them and find out what the minimum pricing is.  I have a feeling they are going with a flat rate on their pricing now.  In the past the minimum was 20 wheels and the price would drop for every additional 20.  I will find out.

Any word on another order? I have a full set of wheels I would like to get done. Was thinking of attempting to do them my self but for the cost i think I will go the safe route.

If  you want to do another order, I am willing to do it again.  I had a guy ship me 16 last week and I should get them this week.
