the outside door handles used on the GMC G749 M135/ M211 trucks are identical to the halftrack, they just have a longer shaft to go through there thicker doors that you can trim down. check ebay for these.

this is a pic of the original door handles. on the ebay handles you can see it has a slightly different mounting flange, but i think bolts up just the same.

i bought these handles and the mounting holes are 1/16" off.
they still mount with a little tweaking.
what i did is pulled the flange and reworked it a little to make it look more like an original.
im sure if i had spent a little more time on it i could get it closer.

All of the M-series handles I have seen don't have the grooves on the outside, they are smooth, if you used a set I'm sure no one would notice.

alright whats going on here?
with over 200 members to this site, so lets say 20 or so watch it regularly there has to be someone that likes old ford cars.
these handles where used on the ford 1936 Deluxe Car, 1937 Pickup and maybe some others.
they sell for about $30 from some sites i have seen. im sure you can find them cheeper.

please let me know if you have any information on any topics that are incorrect or you have input on by posting to them or emailing me.
i post alot of info on parts that i find, but what you dont see are the many many hours and pile of parts that i have ordered only to find that they are not worth posting on this site.

What is the shaft length for the halftrack door handles? I can't seem to find that anywhere.
Thanks, Tom

Awesome...thanks. Yeah, looking at getting a pair of Ford handles identical to the halftrack, but wasn't sure about the shaft length. Pretty easy to just cut it down to size though.

The Ford handles are close, and once painted OD would probably be close enough, but they have more and finer flutes, but if you did both sides 99% of the people wouldn't know!

What about something like this....pretty darn close, right?
My only issue is the chrome. Can it be sandblasted off, or just etched before painting? How do you think the paint would hold up?

That is much closer! Any idea what it off of? I have never tried to sand blast chrome,I would think it might work, that is how they do it when the rechrome an item, but even if it didn't completely remove it as long as it roughs it up enough for paint to stick.

actually having the chrome on is better... it will never rust.
as others have said you need to sand blast it but do it very lightly.. if you blast the chrome so that it starts pealing off then you may have to remove it all because you may not be able to smooth the chrome to no chrome areas. just hold the gun far from the piece or maybe a tumbler.
