Seals between knuckle & spindle?
« on: April 01, 2018, 07:12:48 AM »
In a category of dumb questions: should there be paperseal on both sides of frontaxle spindle assembly? When i took it apart, there was seal only on steeringknuckle side, but, as a common sense, there should also be one on brakeplate side, right?
The ORD9 SNL page 207 has good exploded picture, but no mention of seals.

Here’s what’s shown in the Base Shop Data manual which Steve A. sells. The only gasket in the whole assembly is shown to be on one side of the drive plate, with nothing shown on the spindle and just gasket cement being used on the slinger. I used thin paper gaskets on both sides of the drive plate because water had gotten into the cover. I didn’t remove my slinger, backing plate or spindle, but I think I’d do the same on the spindle or at least use gasket cement on both sides of it. Dimensionally, I wouldn’t think a thin paper gasket with sealant would have any effect on the assembly.

Thanks, jb.
Gasket cement would be my choice of sealant.
