What are these holes for?
« on: May 28, 2018, 05:50:00 PM »
The vertical plate behind and between the front seats of my M2A1 has two 3/8” vertical bolt holes on the right end only. I’ve seen other half tracks where there are two vertical holes on both ends. The only holes in my bed are for the four 3/8" bolts across the top of this plate, nothing for the vertical holes on the end. What’re they for? Thanks.
Jon

Normally on M2's converted to M2A1 there is an angle bracket welded to that spot that connects to the front of the vertical track armor. I'm thinking this came off a factory M2A1 so it has a bolted bracket in that spot instead since it would have never been an M2. Just a guess.

Thanks for the help Clint. I think I’ve seen that welded configuration. Mine’s a converted M2, but there’s nothing on the vertical track armor and no evidence of anything having been there before. I expected an attach angle or something for those two holes but there’s just nothing there. Also, I don't know why just one side? I’ll keep digging.

I think the did it on just the passenger side because the M2A1 has the bulkhead behind the seat cut off even with the top of that plate to provide room for the operator of the ring mount.

Maybe I haven't seen that before - is the bracket on the front of the bulkhead and welded to the track armor? It would make sense that they are there to compensate for the support lost when the plate behind the seat was removed. Holes on just that end would make sense if only the passenger-side plate was removed. That would also account for the front end of my track armor on that side being torched off and no evidence of attachment anywhere else.

Yes I think I have a pic I will find it and post it up. I might have started a thread about it here once.

Found it.

Here is the same M2A1 drivers side.

The driver's side looks the same as mine. It makes sense now. Thanks again for all the help Clint. Much appreciated!
