M2A1 Rear armor CAD files
« on: November 19, 2018, 10:22:09 PM »
Hello you all,

I'm new here and have recently acquired a M2A1 White halftrack.  Just wondering how to trace its manuf. date/ service record?  Also I have been told some of the older halftracks should be reinforced in the back frame, does anyone know anything about this?  Also does anyone have CAD files (AutoCAD or MasterCAM) for the rear armor on a M2A1.  I know its a lot to ask from a newbie but I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg so any info will be nice.

Thanks already,

Chris

Welcome Chris!

You’re in the right place. steve-o has done a great job putting this site together and there are many here who can help you with pretty much everything you need for your project. col.halftrack has a lot of information on serial numbers and manufacturing data. Check with steve1973 for cad drawings for much of the armor.
Post lots of pictures as you go!

Hello again,

I appreciate the welcome. I will post pics sometime this weekend, it's not much, but it's what I could afford. But of course I have plans for it.  Not sure how long it will take to get it there, but it will get there.  I will also post my nomenclature plates with the pics so you all can help me with its pedigree.  It must be early (I presume) because of the aluminum floor plates and I think the Ord. No. said 2941.  I also know it was delivered to the 2nd Service Command in NY Sept. 29 1944 and it was delivered to my place in West KY on Sept 29. 2018 ( my halftrack of destiny).  Thought that was kinda neat and so did the guy that picked it up for me. But anyway I will get frame numbers and anything else you all tell me I need help in finding out more information on it.

Thanks again,

Chris

Congrats! Is your halftrack the one from the recent estate auction in Kansas? It looked like a great start if so.

Hello,

Yes it was.  Probably paid too much, but how do you know with these kinda things?  I needed like I need a hole in my head ... but what are you gonna do.  I've looked for years, missed a couple and let others go.  So anyway I got one.  I hope it was a blessing not a curse. : )

It looked like a pretty good deal to me since it had a lot of hard to find goodies like the rear bed, doors, windshield armor and roller. You did great I think. If it runs then you really got a deal. Do you know any of the history behind it? I noticed during the auction it has the remains of black marks on the front cab armor where they had it covered in tar paper for protection from the elements at some point.

That was a good deal I had my truck hooked to my trailer and was going to drive the couple hours
But then realized I do like being married to my wife.

Hello again,

Yeah she doesn't see the beauty in it yet.  But like I keep telling her, somewhere in all that steel, rust, flaking paint, and dirt is this super cool vehicle.... I also keep telling her... I'm like the artist that stares at that blank canvas, block of marble /clay, or whatever else it might be and sees that work of art that truly lies within.  And she says I am full of it.... I tell her she is right.  Really I like that connection to the past history, always have .  Oh well... I will post some pictures soon. Gotta find where I put that camera.
