3000 halftracks scrapped by Israel IDF
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:54:58 PM »
all halftracks where taken out of service in 1999. From different sources on the internet and other contacts i hear israel had between 3000 and 4000 halftracks. most of these where scrapped with some making there way into private hands. what i haven't found is pics of the scrapping of them, maybe old military stuff isn't as interesting to people in Israel and China. does anyone have any info on this?

They'd been so mofified by then...but still there would be a lot of usable parts:

engine armor
door armor
fenders
winch bumpers and winches
roller bumpers and rollers
rear doors
bogie wheels/crab assemblies
tracks
front wheels/tires
radiators?

Sad seeing that one half buried...

If you wanted one for re-enacting one of those would be great.  A friend rode in one in one of the European armor trips and he said with the diesel engine it ran great.

Potifar, a ground launcher for standard arm ARM. the details of their ops in sinai front during 1973 are still classified, except for the fact that they have been used and that the missions (launch and escape, deep behind enemy lines) were borderline suicidal.

I read about 30 years ago a story that Israel leaves destroyed tanks, halftracks and trucks in the area where they were destroyed if the crews were killed. It is a constant reminder to the people of Israel that their freedom did not come cheap. They are war momorials.

My M9A1 IH was an IDF 81MM mortar carrier and it's first face-lift was in Izzy garb.

They liked to remove the pulpits so I had just replaced mine before this convention.

It was all Izzy.

Displayed with markings I saw on more than one HT used in 1948 by the IDF.

I wish that was my shop.....Duluth, Mn  Convention Center.

Merry Christmas Steve, thanks for the site.
